Structural analysis of immature poxvirus scaffold

Despite eradication of smallpox in the past, poxviruses remain a threat to humanity due to frequent zoonotic infections, and thorough understanding of poxvirus replication cycle at molecular level is needed for anti-poxvirus strategies against possible outbreak.
We study cryo-EM structure of immature poxvirus scaffold in order to understand the assembly mechanism, and to discover potential drug target.

Technical developments
in Cryo-EM

We develop techniques to further advance cryo-EM.
These include sample preparation methods that controls the orientation of particles in vitreous ice, optimized data collection strategies for high-resolution structure determination, data processing pipeline for efficient single particle cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET).
